BPC-157 in 2026: New Studies, Laws, Costs and What’s Next

BPC-157 · 2026 Update · Canada

BPC-157 is one of the most talked-about peptides of 2026. New studies came out. The rules in the US changed. Prices are all over the map. So this guide explains all of it in easy words, with lots of pictures.

  • 1993 first found
  • About 30 people tested
  • 8 to 6 FDA panel vote
  • 0 approved medicines

The short answer

BPC-157 is a small peptide. It was first found in Croatia in 1993. Most studies on it are in rats, not people. In fact, only about 30 people have been in published reports. It is not an approved medicine in Canada or anywhere else. In the US, a new policy from October 2026 lets some pharmacies make it with a doctor’s note. But that policy is not final.

What is BPC-157?

Think of a peptide as a short string of beads. Each bead is an amino acid. Amino acids are the tiny parts that make up proteins.

BPC-157 has 15 beads. Its full name is Body Protection Compound 157. Scientists based it on a protein found in stomach juice. Today, labs build it from scratch, one bead at a time.

Each letter stands for one amino acid. G is glycine, P is proline, and so on.

What do the new studies say?

Lots of new papers came out in 2025 and 2026. Here are the ones that matter most, in plain words.

A 2025 review: how much of the proof is in people?
544papers read36good enough to use35on animals or cells1on people

Doctors checked 544 papers on BPC-157 for muscles, tendons and bones. They kept 36. Only 1 of the 36 was in people.

1

A big check of the research

2025 · USA. Doctors read 544 papers about BPC-157. Only 36 were good enough to use. Of those, 35 were on animals or cells. Just 1 was on people. Their advice was simple: we need real tests in people.

2

A safety test in 2 people

2025 · USA. Two healthy adults got BPC-157 through a drip into a vein. Doctors checked their blood tests, heart rate and blood pressure. Nothing worrying changed, and nobody reported side effects. Still, 2 people is a very tiny test.

3

A bladder pain study

2024 · USA. Twelve women with a painful bladder problem tried BPC-157. Most said they felt a lot better. But there was no dummy group to compare with. So we can’t tell if BPC-157 was the reason.

4

A rat heel study

2026 · Türkiye. Scientists cut and fixed the heel tendon in 32 rats. BPC-157 made the new tissue look a bit neater. But the tendon was not clearly stronger. TB-500 did better on strength. Using both did not add extra help.

5

A “big test” with problems

2026 · China. Early in 2026, a big test in people showed up on a study website. Later, a fact-check site found problems with it. So there is still no proven big, fair test of BPC-157 in people.

6

A science debate

2025 · Poland and Croatia. Scientists in Poland wrote a big review of BPC-157 studies and patents. Then the Croatian team that found BPC-157 wrote back with its own view. Debates like this are normal. They help science get better.

Every person in a published BPC-157 report
Knee pain report · 202116Bladder pain study · 202412Safety drip test · 20252Total: about 30 people

None of these three reports had a dummy group. A big medicine test often has thousands of people.

Scientists test new medicines in steps, like a ladder. Each step must be climbed before the next. BPC-157 is still low on that ladder.

The science ladder

A medicine must climb every step before it can be approved. BPC-157 is mostly on step 2.

What are scientists studying BPC-157 for?

Scientists hope BPC-157 can help the body heal. Most of this work is in rats and mice. So we don’t know yet if it works the same way in people.

Where in the body labs have studied it

Red dots show body parts tested in lab studies. Almost all of these were animal or cell studies.

  • Stomach and gut: ulcers, sores and gut swelling. This is where BPC-157 research began.
  • Tendons and ligaments: the tough bands that hold muscles and bones together.
  • Muscles and bones: tears, crush injuries and broken bones in rats.
  • Nerves and brain: nerve damage and brain injury in animals.
  • Blood vessels: how new tiny blood vessels grow to feed a wound.
  • Skin: cuts, wounds and burns.
  • Bladder: the small 2024 study in 12 women.
The one use the FDA panel looked at. In July 2026, the FDA panel only voted on BPC-157 for ulcerative colitis. That is a gut disease that causes sores in the large bowel.

Which countries study BPC-157?

BPC-157 started in one country. Now labs in many places study it. Here is who did what.

Where BPC-157 research comes from

Numbers match the list below. Red dots mark each country.

1

Croatia

This is where it all began. In 1993, a team in Zagreb led by Dr. Predrag Sikirić wrote about BPC-157. Lots of BPC-157 papers still come from this one team.

2

United States

The US is home to the small tests in people and to big reviews. It is also where the biggest rule changes are happening in 2026.

3

China

A team in Xi’an tested how rats and dogs handle BPC-157. It left the blood in less than 30 minutes. They called it a possible drug for wounds.

4

South Korea

Scientists worked with the Croatian team on the gut. They tested if BPC-157 could guard the gut against strong pain pills called NSAIDs. Ibuprofen is in that family.

5

Taiwan

A team at Chang Gung University studied tendon cells in a dish. With BPC-157, the cells lived longer and moved faster.

6

Türkiye

Doctors in Istanbul ran the 2026 rat heel tendon study. They compared BPC-157, TB-500 and both together.

7

Poland

Scientists wrote a big 2025 review of BPC-157 studies and patents. A patent is a claim on a new invention.

What about Canada?

We could not find any BPC-157 tests in people done in Canada. In May 2026, a professor at McMaster University warned that the proof is still thin.

Here is the big thing to know. BPC-157 is not an approved medicine anywhere in the world. But the rules are not the same in every place.

CanadaNot approved

Health Canada has not approved BPC-157 for people. In April 2026, it warned Canadians not to buy peptides online to inject. BPC-157 was on its list. It also said a “research use only” label does not make a product OK for people. Real medicines in Canada have an 8-digit DIN number on the box.

United StatesChanging

The FDA has not approved BPC-157. But on October 30, 2026, the US health department (HHS) made a new policy. It says licensed pharmacies may make BPC-157 for a patient with a doctor’s prescription, without getting in trouble. BPC-157 is one of six peptides in this policy. It is short-term, not a law. It does not cover “research use only” powder.

Australia and New ZealandPrescription only

BPC-157 is treated as a prescription medicine. But there is no approved BPC-157 product for a doctor to prescribe.

SportsBanned

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) bans BPC-157 at all times. Athletes who get tested should stay away from it.

What the new US policy asks for

The October 2026 policy has strict rules. A pharmacy must follow all of them:

  • A known maker. The powder must come from a maker that the FDA has registered.
  • A lab report. Each batch needs a report for purity, strength, germ bits (endotoxins) and heavy metals.
  • One patient at a time. It is made for one person with a prescription.
  • Report problems. Bad side effects must be reported to the FDA.
  • No research powder. Powder sold “for research use only” is not allowed.

How we got here: the BPC-157 timeline

BPC-157, from 1993 to today
  1. 1993A team in Zagreb, Croatia, first writes about BPC-157.
  2. Late 2023The FDA puts BPC-157 on a risk list. US pharmacies must stop making it.
  3. Feb 27, 2026US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says many peptides, including BPC-157, will come off that list.
  4. Apr 9, 2026Health Canada warns Canadians about peptides sold online. BPC-157 is named.
  5. Apr 2026BPC-157 comes off the FDA risk list. This alone does not make it OK to sell.
  6. Jul 23, 2026An FDA expert panel votes 8 to 6 to let pharmacies make BPC-157 for ulcerative colitis. One person did not pick a side. FDA staff had said no.
  7. Oct 30, 2026HHS posts its new policy. Pharmacies can make BPC-157 with a prescription while the FDA writes a final rule.
  8. Nov 13, 2026Last day for the public to send comments on the policy.
  9. NextThe FDA writes its final rule. No date has been set.

Dates are from US government notices, Health Canada and news reports. See the sources at the end.

What does BPC-157 cost?

Prices change a lot. They depend on who sells it, and what comes with it. Here is what we found in November 2026.

Research vial (5 mg)$35–$80USD per vial · US online shops · for lab use only
Online doctor + pharmacy$105–$135USD per month · US only · needs a prescription
Wellness clinic program$150–$500USD per month · US · often includes visits
US monthly prices, side by side
$0$100$200$300$400$500Online doctor + pharmacy$105–$135Wellness clinic program$150–$500USD per month

Price ranges are from US telehealth and clinic price pages checked in 2026. Clinics may also charge for visits ($39 to $200) and blood tests ($100 to $300).

At Red Leaf, our BPC-157 10mg vial is $75 CAD. Our Wolverine Stack, with BPC-157 and TB-500 (20mg in all), is $110 CAD. Both are sold for lab research only.

Cheap can cost more. A very low price can be a warning sign. Ask for a lab report for the exact batch. Check that it was tested for purity and for germ bits called endotoxins. Our guide on spotting bad peptide sellers shows what to look for.

What is the future of BPC-157?

Nobody knows for sure. But here is what to watch for next.

1

Comments close

Until November 13, 2026, anyone can send comments to the US government about the new policy.

2

A final FDA rule

Next, the FDA must write a final rule. It will say yes or no to BPC-157 on its pharmacy list. No date is set.

3

Big, fair tests

This is the big missing piece. We need tests with hundreds of people, a dummy group and careful safety checks.

4

Canada

Nothing changes here unless a company asks Health Canada and shows proof that it is safe and works.

Two ways the story could go
BPC-157 todayIf tests go wellBig fair tests show itis safe and it helps. It could slowly becomea real medicine. If tests go badlyTests show it does notwork in people, or asafety problem shows up.Rules could tighten.

HHS says it can change or cancel its policy at any time, for example if safety problems show up.

How to check BPC-157 quality

The new US policy puts lab reports at the center. That is a good habit for any lab, anywhere. Here is a simple checklist:

  • Ask for the lab report. It is often called a COA. It should match the batch number on your vial.
  • Check who tested it. The lab should be independent, not the seller.
  • Look at three numbers. Purity, how much peptide is in the vial, and endotoxins.
  • Make sure you can verify it. Good reports have a link or code you can check yourself.

You can see every one of our reports on our testing and COA page.

Questions people ask

Is BPC-157 approved in Canada?

No. Health Canada has not approved BPC-157 for people. In April 2026 it warned Canadians not to buy peptides online to inject, and BPC-157 was on its list. A “research use only” label does not make a product legal to use on people.

Is BPC-157 legal in the US now?

It is still not approved by the FDA. But since October 30, 2026, a US health department policy says licensed pharmacies may make BPC-157 for a patient with a prescription. The policy is short-term and not final. The FDA still has to write a final rule.

Has BPC-157 been tested in people?

Only a little. Three small reports have about 30 people in total: 16 with knee pain, 12 women with bladder pain and 2 healthy adults in a safety test. None of them had a dummy group, so they cannot prove that BPC-157 works.

What is BPC-157 studied for?

Mostly healing. Labs have studied it for the gut, tendons, muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels and skin. Almost all of this work was done in rats, mice or cells in a dish.

Who discovered BPC-157?

A team in Zagreb, Croatia, led by Dr. Predrag Sikirić. They first wrote about it in 1993. It is based on a protein found in stomach juice.

Which countries study BPC-157?

Croatia leads. Labs in the United States, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Türkiye and Poland have also published BPC-157 studies or reviews.

How much does BPC-157 cost?

In the US, research vials of 5 mg cost about $35 to $80 USD. A prescription from an online doctor costs about $105 to $135 USD a month. Clinic programs cost about $150 to $500 USD a month. At Red Leaf, a 10mg research vial is $75 CAD.

Is BPC-157 banned in sports?

Yes. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) bans BPC-157 at all times. Athletes who get tested should not use it.

What is the future of BPC-157?

Watch two things. First, the FDA final rule on whether pharmacies can keep making it. Second, big, fair tests in people with a dummy group. Without those tests, it cannot become an approved medicine.

The bottom line

BPC-157 is exciting to scientists, but the proof in people is still tiny. The US rules moved a lot in 2026. Canada’s rules did not. Watch for the FDA’s final rule, and for real, fair tests in people.
