Glutathione is a tripeptide thiol, L-gamma-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine, supplied by Red Leaf Research Labs as a 1500 mg lyophilized research material in the reduced form, GSH. Published work studies it as one half of the GSH/GSSG redox couple and as a cosubstrate for glutathione peroxidases and transferases. It is not an authorized medicine in Canada, is not a supplement or food, is for laboratory research use only, is not for human or veterinary use, and carries no dosing or protocol information.
Reduced glutathione is stocked in a 1500 mg lyophilized fill for qualified laboratory purchasers in Canada, described here by material, lot paperwork and dispatch terms.
People reach this page through buy glutathione Canada, glutathione peptide Canada and L-glutathione reduced Canada. The third is the precise phrase: the oxidized dimer is a different material. Anyone arriving from a personal-health motive should speak with a clinician.
Red Leaf Research Labs supplies glutathione as a research chemical. It is not supplied to be given to any person or animal, no dosing accompanies it, and nothing is claimed for what it does.

The 1500 mg quantity is a stock unit, not a recommendation, and no guidance is given on how much an experiment needs.
Glutathione is a three-residue peptide with one defining peculiarity. The bond between glutamate and cysteine is formed from the glutamate side-chain carboxyl rather than the alpha-carboxyl, a gamma-linkage that ordinary peptidases do not cleave. The molecule is therefore built by two dedicated enzymes, glutamate-cysteine ligase and glutathione synthetase, rather than by translation, and its reactive group is the cysteine thiol.
Glutathione is most often confused with three neighbours. Oxidized glutathione, GSSG, is the disulfide-linked dimer, a separate compound with its own CAS number. S-acetyl-L-glutathione is a derivative. N-acetylcysteine is a modified amino acid, not a peptide. A report on any of these describes nothing about reduced GSH.
Glutathione appears in the literature mainly through its thiol. Two GSH molecules can be oxidized to the disulfide GSSG, and the ratio between the forms is a standard index of cellular redox state, measured in cell and tissue extracts by chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods. In enzymology it is a cosubstrate rather than a catalyst: glutathione peroxidases use it as an electron donor in reducing hydroperoxides, and glutathione transferases use it as a nucleophile in conjugation reactions studied in xenobiotic metabolism. Further work covers protein S-glutathionylation, glutaredoxin-mediated de-glutathionylation and the mitochondrial glutathione pool.
All of that describes measurements in cell extracts, purified enzyme systems, cultured cells and animal tissue. A cosubstrate relationship or a redox ratio measured in a model system does not establish that any effect occurs in a person.
Route length is the first consideration and 1500 mg makes it a large one: a gram and a half of a thiol exposed to an undocumented hold.
The second is that the useful question on any lot here, how much remains reduced, is one for the supplier, and easier to press within one legal system.
Both are contract points. Neither changes what an assay would return.
Many listings for this compound borrow supplement copy, and consumer claims come with it. This page differs in five ways.
Two questions here are peculiar to the molecule. One is redox state: the reduced tripeptide and its disulfide dimer are different compounds with different registry numbers. The other is the gamma linkage, invisible to amino acid analysis, since acid hydrolysis returns glutamate, cysteine and glycine either way.
A certificate giving one purity figure and nothing on oxidised content leaves the lot’s most time-sensitive property undescribed.
The container holds a freeze-dried solid: frozen, then dried by sublimation under vacuum. For most peptides that is about hydrolysis. Here it is as much about oxygen, water being how it reaches the cysteine thiol.
Oxidation of that thiol to the disulfide is the chemistry the literature associates with this compound, faster at alkaline pH and catalysed by trace metals. The solid is hygroscopic, and a 1500 mg container is opened many times, each an exposure event. How it is kept is for the receiving laboratory to specify; nothing is prescribed here.
These steps concern purchasing and records, not dosing or design.
Glutathione is unusual in this catalogue because it is sold widely outside the laboratory. Oral supplements, topical products and clinic services all carry the name, and search results mix those markets together.
A research chemical is a different category of goods from all of them. This vial has not been assessed by Health Canada for use in a person, carries no licensed labelling, and is not manufactured or documented to any consumer-product standard.
A personal-health interest in glutathione belongs with a licensed clinician.
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Purpose | Laboratory research in an organization eligible to receive it |
| Identity | L-glutathione reduced, CAS 70-18-8, gamma-glutamyl bond |
| Distinctness | The reduced tripeptide, not GSSG, S-acetyl-glutathione or NAC |
| Quantity | Number of containers, allowing for repeated opening |
| Documentation | Lot report giving oxidised content as a separate determination |
| Verification | Whether a thiol assay is run independently on arrival |
| Handling | Dry sealed receiving for a hygroscopic, oxidisable solid |
Background reading: what third-party testing does and does not tell a purchaser, the terminology reference, and buying research peptides in Canada in 2026.
No. No dosing, reconstitution, concentration, route or protocol information is provided.
Working out concentration for this vial? Our peptide reconstitution calculator converts vial size and bacteriostatic water volume into mg per mL and U-100 syringe units.
GSH is the reduced form with a free cysteine thiol; GSSG is the oxidized dimer joined by a disulfide bond. They are separate compounds with separate CAS numbers.
No. This is a laboratory research chemical, not a supplement or medicine, and is not supplied for any use in a person.
It is a peptide by structure: three residues joined by amide bonds. The glutamate linkage is a gamma-linkage, so two dedicated enzymes assemble it instead.
A third-party report is available for the current lot, by lot number, with the methods used.
Research use only. Glutathione 1500 mg is supplied strictly for laboratory research. It is not an authorized medicine in Canada, is not a supplement or food, is not for human or veterinary use, and carries no dosing or protocol information. Anyone with a personal-health question about glutathione should consult a licensed clinician.
