Kisspeptin is not one molecule. The KISS1 gene encodes a precursor processed into several peptides sharing a common C-terminal region, named by residue count: kisspeptin-54, -14, -13 and -10. All end in the RFamide motif, an arginine and an amidated phenylalanine, which the receptor literature regards as essential. Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest and the form most often supplied as research material, so a listing labelled only kisspeptin is ambiguous until the fragment is named.
Kisspeptin-10 is therefore most often confused with kisspeptin-54, also catalogued as metastin: a different material with its own weight and identifier, whose report does not cover this one. A second confusion is with gonadotropin-releasing hormone, a separate decapeptide with an unrelated sequence and receptor.
Published work on kisspeptin-10 centres on KISS1R, a class A G protein-coupled receptor identified before its ligand and first catalogued as the orphan receptor GPR54. Reported experiments include radioligand binding in transfected cells, inositol phosphate and calcium readouts, and structure-activity work comparing fragment lengths and the contribution of the C-terminal amide. Work in rodent hypothalamic tissue has mapped where KISS1R- and KISS1-expressing neurons sit.
All of that describes measurements in transfected cell lines, tissue preparations and animal models. Receptor or pathway activity in a model does not establish that any effect occurs in a person.
